Three dimensional steep wave impact on a vertical cylinder

Résumé : The 3D slamming on a vertical cylinder due to a steep wave impact is considered. The method of solution relies on potential theory (Laplace domain) whilst the approach is taken on the linearized domain. The approach is performed mathematically aiming at deriving an analytical solution for the concerned mixed-boundary value problem. The sought solution (being analytical) holds for the initial steps of impact. The main purpose is to calculate the variation of the impacted area in the vertical direction. The variability of the impacted area literally originates from the employment of the Wagner condition being employed. The numerical results indeed demonstrate the validity of the latter statement.
