Séminaire M2P2

Interaction of Flexible Filaments and Flaps with Unsteady Cylinders and Aerofoils Wakes

Orateur : Alfredo Pinelli
Professeur à City University London (School of Computer Science, Mathematics and Engineering)

Résumé : One of the paradigmatic examples of flow over bluff bodies is the flow behind a circular cylinder and its control, which has been studied extensively in experiments, theoretical models, and numerical simulations. In particular, in this seminar the focus will be on the use of elongated, inextensible, elastic filaments to manipulate the two-dimensional wake behind a cylinder and its two first tridimensional bifurcations. The talk will also cover some preliminary results on similar methodologies inspired by biomimetic ideas to control flow separation on an aerofoil during a ramp up maneuver. Finally, a short review of the outcomes of the EU funded project Pelskin (the framework where the results discussed in this seminar have been obtained) will be briefly discussed together with an outlook on future possible applications in aeronautical and energy engineering.

Date et lieu : Jeudi 10 septembre 2015 à 15h (locaux M2P2 Château Gombert)
