Résumé : How cell-generated forces are transmitted through cell contacts and how they induce tissue deformation are fundamental and integral questions to any morphogenetic processes. Using quantitative imaging, force measurements in vivo and modeling, we study how subcellular tensile forces drive remodeling of cell contacts and tissue elongation in the Drosophila embryo as a model system. I will present our recent attempts to directly measure the mechanics of cell contacts in vivo and to delineate the role of internal and external forces on cell and tissue shapes.
