Gap resonance relevant to side-by-side offloading operations

Abstract : As a development option to exploit offshore gas reserves far from any market, the idea of a floating liquid natural gas facility (FLNG) is being developed. Side-by-side configuration, where an LNG carrier is moored alongside the FLNG vessel in close proximity, will be adopted to conduct the offloading operations. The fluid in between the vessels may experience resonant motions at certain excitation frequencies, the so-called gap resonance. This presentation will cover different aspects of the gap resonance, e.g. mode shapes, viscous damping and nonlinearity.
